Oral history interview with Arthur Brown, 1973 September.

Arthur Brown relates his apprenticeship, training and subsequent membership in the Toronto, Canada, Local No. 12. He describes the lithographic industry, its technology, and the development of collective bargaining. Mr. Brown traces his rise to the presidency of the Toronto Local in 1941 and then to international vice president in 1944, a position he held until his retirement in 1964. He recalls the status of the lithographic industry in Canada during the Depression, how the skilled craftsmen reacted to industrial unions in the 1930s, and the effect of World War II on the industry.
